About the boys

The Whole Dumb Story

How two cartoon neighbors, one borrowed microphone and a rain gutter became a merch shop.

Two Dumbasses started the way most bad ideas do: in a garage, on a Tuesday, with somebody saying "how hard could it be?"

Dewey and Lyle are neighbors on a quiet street in Springboro, Ohio. Dewey is the tall one who agrees with everything. Lyle is the round one who has a plan for everything. Together they have the combined judgment of one golden retriever, and they're proud of it.

The Gutter Grill

One summer evening, Lyle decided the rain gutter on the garage was "already the right shape for a grill." Dewey brought burgers. A friend with a borrowed microphone hit record, mostly so there would be evidence. The burgers did not survive and the gutter did not survive.

The garage now has an orange couch, an ON AIR sign that mostly works and a mini fridge labelled SNACKS that mostly doesn't.

Why the Merch

Because a bad idea deserves a good shirt. Everything in the shop is an original design, printed to order by Printful in the US when you order it — no warehouse, no leftover boxes, no plan. On brand.

The Rules (Yes, There Are Rules)

Dumb, not mean. The joke is always on Dewey and Lyle, or on the idea — never on anybody real, and never on somebody who didn't sign up for it. The word "dumbass" gets said a lot. That's as bad as it gets.

Dewey, cartoon mascot

The tall orange one

Dewey

Says yes before the question is finished. Owns one propeller beanie and a lot of confidence in whatever Lyle just said.

  • Favorite food: whatever is closest
  • Has started 4 businesses (all on the same afternoon)
  • Thinks the moon is "pretty close, actually"
Lyle, cartoon mascot

The round blue one

Lyle

Always has a plan, and the plan is always "basically done." One heroic eyebrow, one backwards cap, zero doubts.

  • Favorite tool: duct tape, then more duct tape
  • Once grilled in the gutter
  • Reads instructions "after, as a treat"
